Nvidia has announced a whole new line of 'refreshed' gaming GPUs, the '800M' series. Nvidia promises better performance and lower power consumption.
Lower Power Better Performance
Nvidia claimed that if you run the award winning game, Skyrim at 1080p at medium settings, on a notebook running an Intel i5-4210U, you'll get just 10 FPS, with an i7-4750HQ processor you'll get 19 FPS with a power consumption of 15 watts and 43 watts respectively.
If you were to run the game with the same settings with the new GTX 840M, you'll get 30 FPS along with a power consumption of only 17 watts.
Battery
According to Nvidia, its new Battery Boost technology can increase the gaming time of a notebook (while on battery) to twice that of without Battery boost enabled.
The software automatically adjust the brightness, resolution image quality and frames per second to lower the load on the battery, hence increasing the gaming time.
The software can be fine tuned or even turned off.
