DDR4 - Things You Need To Know

DDR4 is the next big thing in RAM medules, but what exactly is it? Learn more about it now!

What is DDR4?

The current DDR DRAM standard, known as DDR3 was launched roughly 6-7 years ago, in 2007. Ever since that day, everybody tried to hop on the new thing. Now a days, nearly every computer, whether it be a gaming desktop, or a portable tablet, has been running on DDR3 DRAM memory. However that might be about he change with the launch of the all new DDR4 DRAM memory coming closer. DDR4 is the upcoming standard of memories. It sure is better than good old DDR3, but…

How better is DDR4?

As Intel is getting closer to releasing the X99 chipset for motherboards, with support for DDR4 memory we can start speculating the speed of he DDR4 RAM modules, of course after reading some bare facts. The new modules are supposed to have 50% more bandwidth and 30% less energy consumption. The frequency of the RAM would be increased to a max of 3200MHz instead if the current 2400MHz of DDR3 DRAM. Along with this the new standard will support twice as fast data transfer, about 3.2 billion per second.

When Can I Get It?

Well, that is surely tough to say, of course we will first need Intel to lauch its DDR4 supporting chipset, after that we need manufacturers to start manufacturing the RAM (some, such as Samsung have already started producing DDR4 modules.)
