Microsoft is set to buy Minecraft maker, Mojang for ~$2.5 Billion. What this means for the game? We don't know yet, but it should be either really good or really bad.
Clearly Microsoft doesn't plan on earning back the $2.5 Billion by just Minecraft sales, so its almost certain that they have something big in plan for the game and Mojang. Founder Notch, and lead developer Jeb, both are leaving to work on smaller projects, however, most of the staff will be staying and will continue working on the game.
It isn't clear if MS will continue to produce free updates, but at least we should be getting some highly polished content, hopefully free.
