It has been about 14 years, since the launch of the original Play Station 2, and it has accumulated over 3500 games in its life time, the last game released was Fifa 14. We have compiled a countdown of the top 5 games we think were the best ones in the console's history.
Known as NFSU, it was one of the 8 NFS games to be released on the PS2. Though it was succeeded by a sequel and a few other titles in the series, it was an innovation, especially since it was the first NFS game to introduce fully customizable cars., and a story driven career mode.
Other notable NFS games on the PS2 include ProStreet and Most Wanted.
Hitman: Blood Money was the fourth instalment in the Stealth based series, it was released in '06 but had one of the best graphics the PS2 had ever seen. Unfortunately the console was never able to even get near the sequel, Absolution, and so the tale of Agent 47 ended right here for this brave console.
The game had a great soundtrack and storyline. It is one of my personal favourites of all time, all genres and all platforms.
In RE 4 we follow the tale of Loen, a special agent. It was released in '05. The game itself was one of the best Over The Shoulder games of its time, add a solid story and exciting gameplay, you have yourself a GOTY.
It was one of my first 'horror' games, (if you can call it that). Also like Hitman: BM, it was the last of its series to be released on the PS2.
Max Payne, was a character I never understood as a youngster, the game is filled with depression and a unique way of telling the story. Personally the first instalment in the series was my favourite, but to be honest the second was nothing short of spectacular. Although MP3 was never able to come on the PS2, the earlier 2 left their definitive impact.
If you haven't played this, then you probably SHOULD.
You saw this coming, didn't you?
Anyway, back in '05, this was THE game. I mean think about it, this was the game in which you could do anything, even to this day, it has a stronger storyline and more content than some AAA games. Granted the graphics were poor, but remember, Rockstar had to cramp it in a single 4.7 GB DVD.
GTA: SA is not only, in my opinion, the best PS2 game, but one of the best games of all time, regardless of era. If you still haven't played it, then you're definitely missing out.
5. Need For Speed: Underground
